PS3 version Portal 2 supports cross-platform multiplay
During E3 2010 last June a PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 was announced, along with the word that the game supports Steamworks.
Today, developer Valve Software had something new to say about their game. Namely that Portal 2 will support cross-platform multiplayer between PC, Mac and Playstation3.
Next to that it would also be possible to use a cloud-based save game system. With this saves are being stored on an external online source, making them accessible anywhere, anytime. Unless you don't have an internet connection of course ;)
The words came out of the mouth of Gabe Newell, the former PS3 hater himself:
Portal 2 is planned for release April 20th on PC, Mac, PS3 and X360.

"We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product," said Valve co-founder Gabe Newell. "Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases."
"We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers," Portal 2 project lead Josh Weier explained. "PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites."
We wonder how much money Sony threw at the guy, but nonetheless it still remains cool that there will be cross-platform multiplayer. Big question remains: why isn't X360 included in that cross-platform multiplay? Is it because Microsoft doesn't allow it? Or because Sony wants it exclusive to their console? Don't tell me it's technically not feasible :)"We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers," Portal 2 project lead Josh Weier explained.
