PSN hack costing Sony tons of money

Posted on Monday, 23 May 2011 by Speed, source: vg247
Sony Entertainment has announced that the problems and resulting downtime of their PlayStation Network will cost them around £106 million which comes down to over 122 million euros.

This news came during the revision of their financial results of the last fiscal year which ended March 31st 2011. For the ull results, Variety has word the console giant has reported a $3.2 billion loss. The full report on their financials is expected on Thursday.
Based on information currently available to Sony, our currently known costs associated with the unauthorized network access are estimated to be approximately 14 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012.
The non-use of several factories as well as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan earlier this year in March also are blamed for the massive losses the company will be reporting:
On Monday, the entertainment and consumer electronics giant said it will report a $3.2 billion net loss for its fiscal year that ended March 31, as it struggles to recover from the impact of the earthquake and tsumani in Japan and the security breach of its PlayStation Network that compromised the personal information from 100 million user accounts.
The annual loss will be the largest under CEO Howard Stringer, who assumed the top job in 2005, and Sony's third straight year of red ink.
