PSP and PS2 make for overall drop in sales for Sony
Even a Pink PSP can't rescue Sony's financials
Sony's Networked Products & Services Division (home of Playstation and Vaio PCs) has reported its operating loss has decreased, but with £609 million in the red that still is quite big. Overall sales went down with just over 10% to £11.6 billion and the reason for that are the PSP and the PS2.
PS3 sales were up to 13 million units (10 million last year) while software sales also have risen to 115.6 million units (103.7 million in 2009). That wasn't good enough to make up for the results of Sony's handheld and PS2 though.:
PSP sales declined from 14.1 million to 9.9 million units, with game sales down from 50.3 million to 44.4 million units
PS2 sales were down from 7.9 million to 7.3 million units, while PS2 software sales fell sharply, from 83.5 million to 35.7 million units.
