Sony Online Entertainment just announced that in an agreement with Flying Labs Software they will be the exclusive publisher for Pirates of the Bruning Sea. For SOE, the good thing about this agreement is that their portfolio will become even more exotic with a pirate MMORPG under their wing. The positive thing for Flying Lab Software is that they can count on the money of one of the biggest and most experienced MMO publisher in the world.

“Working with top notch developers like Flying Lab Software is at the heart of Platform Publishing’s mission to market and distribute a portfolio of games like Pirates of the Burning Sea that stand shoulder to shoulder with our SOE flagship franchises,” said David D Christensen, Vice President, Business Development and International Operations, Sony Online Entertainment.

It seems that in the near future we'll be able to choose from a wide range of new MMORPG's!

THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!

Damnit, I was looking forward to POTBS, but SOE have a reputation for screwing up EVERY SINGLE GAME they ever made or published. Every one of them sucked. I bet you these guys will rush the developers to release an unfinished product, or dumb the game down to appeal to masses more. Arg!!!

sorry but you need to get your information straight.

Matrix Online i won't talk good, but Everquest 2 in now one of the best MMO's that exist. Star Wars Galaxies got fucked up by Lucas Arts, NOT Sony Online Entertainment. It was Lucas Arts that wanted the NGE, not SOE. Vanguard was destroyed by SIGIL Games, not SOE. Soe recently took it over and is already fixing the game because SIGIL Games was screwing around.

Either way this game needs a publisher for you to obtain it. :)

true, besides it could be it's going to be like vanguard was, SOE just publishes but doesn't get involved in the content. but ofcourse the company doing the content needs to be decent ^^

The best way they could do this is pull a CCP. They become their own publisher and sell the game only through the internet. That way they have full control over any bug fixing delays to release, and don't rush the game, etc.

Wasn't the original Everquest published by SOE? that seemed to do pretty well. I think we should just wait and see how this one turns out before we get our panties in a bunch.

To do it like CCP, you need to be very lucky, don't forget that there is a lot more competition these days then in the past, if you want to start with something new you better have a lot of money.
