Pixeljunk dev attacks game funding system
Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert is one of the people behind Pixeljunk Shooter for PSN and in an interview he stated that if there's one thing that needs to change in the gaming industry, it's the funding of games. According to him, the entire industry is geared towards making publishers "stinking rich":
The only small point that Cuthbert is forgetting (no matter how fundamentally right he is about exurbant bonuses for CEOs) is that this isn't just the gaming industry. It's how our capitalist system works and in the US it's even worse than in the rest of the world. So... tough luck Dylan, it won't change anytime soon.
What area of the industry needs more investment?
The games investment system needs investment!
The model of games funding at the moment is fundamentally broken and biased towards making publishers stinking rich. Just look at the bonuses and wages of execs at EA for example, I could make the entire PixelJunk series, including series 2, two or three times over on the EA boss’s income bonus.
For info: EA's John Riccitiello came home last year with a $750.000 sallary, $625.350 in bonuses (while stocks are dropping like hell since he's in charge) and stock options worth $3.6 million. However, that seems small change when comparing it with Activision-Blizzard's Bobby Kotick. Kotick got a total of $14.9 million of which $900.000 was sallary. The games investment system needs investment!
