PlanetSide free subscription demo program live!

Recently, the free subscription 'Reserves' program for the mmofps PlanetSide has gone live. This means that new players can play the game for one year without having to pay any monthly fees.

There is a catch since Reserves players can only reach Battle Rank 6 and won't gain any experience thereafter if they don't upgrade to a paying account. Battleframes (BFR's) aren't accessible either but the caves are and new players can still join squads and outfits (the PS-equivalent of clans).

Read more about it in the official FAQ. Instructions on how and where to download the client (1.86 GB) and how to register are available here.

Q: How long can I play the demo?
A: The program will run for a fixed 12-month period from March 24, 2006 through March 24, 2007. The length of your demo time will depend on when in the promotion period you sign up. If you sign up on the first day, you will have almost 12 full months of gameplay. If you sign up one week before the end of the program, you will have one week of demo time.

What's PlanetSide? Let's call it a full-blown war, a massive multiplayer version of vehicle shooters as Tribes and Battlefield since battles are fought out between literally hundreds of players on several gigantic maps. More info can be seen on the official site.

Hmm, didn't yet try it but there is another unofficial installer of sorts which 'should' work too. You can find it on the official forums which are closed to non-subscribers for the moment.

Gonna try to download the official too now, my trial version won't allow me to create a Reserves account apparently, too bad.
