PlayStation 3 gets DivX support

Good news for all you film lovers out there. According to Sony, the PlayStation 3 will add support for DivX to its portfolio in the near future (presumably with the 2.1 firmware).

DivX is known for its strong compression. It makes an average 90 minute film fit nicely on a CD (yes those, old-fashioned thingies).

Sony's announcement means you'll be soon able to watch your legal or not-so-legal movie collection on your sparkling new HDTV set (assuming you don't already own a DivX-enabled DVD player of course). Nice!
