PlayStation Move: All you need to know!

Posted on Thursday, 11 March 2010 by Speed, source: Fragland
Sony Entertainment has for the first time confirmed the name for the Playstation3 motion controller which won't be Arc. Instead it will be... Playstation Move. (yea, we guessed that already yesterday).

An exact price or release date haven't been given yet but what we do know is that the hardware and software will launch this Autumn with plenty of marketing support. Also several different bundles will be offered including one with only the controllers, a start bundle with the Move controller, the Playstation Eye Camera and a disc with some demos for "less than $100". Also a bundle with the PS3 itself is in the pipeline. It's not completely clear whether the start bundle will have one or multiple controllers.

This is how the controllers look like:

The main controllers has a gyroscope with three axes, an accellerometer on three axes and an earth-magnetic sensitive sensor. The thing weighs 145 grams and is 200 by 46 millimeter big. The light bulb can change color, supports rumble and there's also an analog trigger.

More surprising, or maybe not, is that also some kind of Nunchuck will be featured. This small "sub-controller" complements the normal controller, has an analog stick and a D-pad. You'll need it to play for instance a classic FPS, as was demonstrated during the presentation with SOCOM 4.

Just like with the DualShock3 and the Sixaxis the controllers have built-in lithium-ion batteries and synchronise through Bluetooth.

Concerning games Sony said that over 20 will be available by the end of March next year that will either be made for Move or have optional support for it.

Following games have been confirmed and shown already:
* Brunswick Pro Bowling
* Motion Fighter (working title)
* Move Party (working title)
* Sliders (working title)
* Sports Champions
* TV SuperStars
The presentation of the games themselves proved us most of all that we can expect plenty of Wii-like mini-games and that no hardcore titles are present that can show the added value of Move. SOCOM 4 did seem perfectly playable with the new controllers. It's of course way too early to make a final judgment.

The controller also looks to be a lot more precise and faster than that of the Wii - there was rarely any lag, and then mostly with Motion Fighter - and now we can of course expect some motion-sensing games in HD.

Two movies have been released. One shows the presentation itself, the second gives you the official Sony reel.

Sony also confirmed that 36 developers and publishers have already promised their support. In reality it's 35 as they've counted themselves as well. Not that we even would dare to doubt the fact that we can expect quite a lot of Move games soon.
