The freshly announced Playstation 3 netflix support coming in November had one major drawback: You need to have a free Blu-ray in your system instead of some software application running on XMB.

Joystiq got some more info from Sony which reveals the disc will be needed until 'late next year' when it will be replaced by a downloadable Netflix application.

Sony also said that the disc 'represented the fastest and easiest way' and that the performance should at least be on par with that of Netflix on the Xbox 360.
