Playstation Home unveiled by Kotaku, Sony gets angry
Kotaku has put together some rumours and inside information and found out that Sony will be unveiling something called Playstation Home at the coming GDC (Game Developer's Conference).
The thing sounds a lot like a combination of Nintendo's Mii characters and Xbox360's achievements but it's only a rumour.
However, Sony was pretty unhappy with Kotaku spilling the news and even threatened to cut the site off completely so it doesn't sound so much as a rumour.
Meanwhile, Sony and Kotaku have made up again and agreed to disagree on how news should be brought to gamers, but the fact remains that Sony seems to be doing what it did back in the early days of its existence: copy ideas from other companies and try to improve them

Basically, you get to make an avatar for your console (like a Mii) and this avatar has a room. As you play games and accomplish certain tasks, you will receive items with which to adorn the room that are specific to the game (achievements). The kicker is that this is going to be a new requirement for every PS3 game

When I responded that we were going forward with the story and that sometimes news doesn't come from official sources I was told that if we published we would likely be blackballed by the company.
Specifically, they said we would be asked to return our debug PS3, uninvited from all meetings scheduled with Sony at GDC, including one on blogger relations and a one-on-one with Phil Harrison, and that they would no longer deal with us.
