Postal movie sucks

For a very little while it looked good for 'Postal' because of it's funny opening scene. Unfortunately it seems that this scene is the only good thing in the movie.

Over at Wired's blog a review of the premiere can be found.

Postal is the story of a guy shooting a bunch of people in order to stop Al Qaeda and a religious cult led by Dave Foley from unleashing on the world a batch of avian bird flu hidden in a shipment of penis-shaped children's toys voiced by Verne Troyer (pull the string and it says "only my father and my priest can touch me there!").

Al Qaeda raids Little Germany, a fictional theme park owned by Uwe Boll, who plays himself in the movie. He plays up any and all stereotypes about himself in the film, which would be pretty funny if it wasn't up to and including the one about how his movies are financed with Nazi gold. He pays Troyer in gold teeth. You can imagine where these are suggested to have come from.

Boll seems out to shock his audience into stunned disbelief rather than actually entertain them. Early in the movie, we get a long, leisurely shot of a fully nude Foley scratching his reproductive organs. I don't want to sound like I personally was offended or shocked by anything. In fact, the only time I laughed was during the movie's opening sequence, a comedy skit in the cockpit of one of the September 11 airplanes (they're fighting over the number of virgins they get in Paradise). It was legitimately well-paced and funny. But it was followed by 90 minutes of flat jokes.

What a surprise. Seems like not everyone learns from mistakes.

That was to be expected. I don't understand where Uwe Boll gets money for his movies. There are so many talented and underfunded directors around and this guy actually gets to make movies?

Indeed. I think Uwe is a smart sob tbh. He probably treats his line of work as any other. So what he thinks is: the money is flowing, why stop now?

Unfortunatelly his ideas and directing is another story :P

Which is bad on both points. He is doing this because he gets cash. And because of this, he chooses to stay and still make crap movies no matter what everyone else is thinking.

I wonder what it would take to make him stop making movies......

Actually, it's got to do with German tax laws that make it interesting money-wise to invest in his movies as long as they don't make too much money. Don't ask me how, but I saw some explanation on it on the web some time ago.

I think the German government pays out at least half of your production costs, if I recall. Unfortunately, Uwe's movies are so bad, even getting half back they don't usually break even.
