Power consumption Wii the least

Posted on Thursday, 22 February 2007 by Devilke, source: HardCOREware
Did you ever wonder how much power your console consumes? HardCOREware did. Therefore, they compared the power consumption of the Wii, PS3, Xbox360 and pc during gaming, while watching a movie (not possible with Wii) or a HD-movie, at idle and in standby.

Different games were tested, but finally they chose NBA Live 2K7 for PS3, Gears of War for Xbox360, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wii and Prey for pc. The results speak for their self:

With 198 Watt, the pc consumes the most, immediately followed by the PS3 with 194 Watt. 185 Watt for the Xbox360 is a little bit better, but the absolute winner is the Wii with only 18 Watt.

If you want to play a dvd, you're better off with a normal dvd player, so it seems. Those only use 13,5 Watt. Compare this with the Xbox360 consuming 126 Watt, the pc 147 Watt and the PS3 even 173 Watt.

Also interesting is the power consumption in standby. Again, the Wii is the winner with only 1,3 Watt. PS3 consumes 1,9 Watt and Xbox360 2,5 Watt. That is, if you disable Connect24 on your Wii. If you leave it on, your Wii consumes 9,6 Watt in standby.

If you want to take a closer look at the complete study, go to the HardCOREware site.

For a game console that pumps out 3D graphics that is quite a technical marvel. Basically, it uses a little more power than a good flourescent bulb. Obviously this sort of spec isn't one that moves hardware, as we look for quality and quantity of games, but PC gamers should look at the Power requirements for a DX 10 GPU, and then look at what the Wii uses. It really is impressive.

Yes it is truelly impressive but Nintendo also pointed that out before the Wii was released. They said it was a bit better than Gamecube but much more energy-efficient. Hands down to those engineers.
