Problems for PlayStation Vita in Japan?
The launch of the PlayStation Vita in Japan definitely didn't make the bosses at Sony Entertainment happy the last couple of weeks. Sales have been quite disappointing.
During the first 48 hours no less than 325.000 units got sold, but by the end of the first full week on sale (between December 19th and 25th), that number increased with only 72.479.
A Japanese retailer has since decided to significantly drop the price of the 3G model, hoping to increase sales. Some stores give up to 20% discount, bringing the price to 25.000 Yen.
This of course doesn't mean there's already a huge problem, or that we'll see a global price drop before the launch in February over here but it may. The Wi-Fi version is scheduled to be sold at 249 euros, and the 3G version will go for €299. A memory card for your downloaded games will cost you 50 euros for a 16GB version.
The 3DS had similar issues but thanks to a price drop in July and the launch of some great games the handheld managed to recover and is now putting down some strong numbers.
