Producer hints at new Battlestar Galactica games
Posted on Sunday, 16 April 2006 by Rian, source: GateWorld.net
Ron Moore, writer and producer of the sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica, wants to bring the story into the gaming business. The writer found a new goal, according to an interview with TV.com.
As you may or may not know, there are already several games that carry the name Battlestar Galactica. Those are based on the old Galactica series (1979-80).
The new series, which first aired in 2003, has received countless awards. The American audience is currently awaiting the third season, that is scheduled for October. As with the TV series, Moore wants to bring the games in his unique way:
The possibilities are endless. It could be either a space shooter, a 3D RTS, a java cell phone game or even a MMORPG, so every player could own his/her own viper, a raptor or maybe a battlestar.

The key to bringing a property back, Moore says, is finding the heart of that material. Moore, who came of age during the Atari era in the 1970s, has watched many Hollywood contemporaries over the past decade gain a comfort level with how games operate and finds himself joining in.
"It's a pull that there's something interesting happening over there," Moore says. "It's also a new medium and new technology for storytelling, which means there are a lot of things people haven't done yet and figured out yet."
Designing a show which can cross mediums while aimed at the gaming market is a new orientation for project developers like Moore. In fact, he is one of a select few who understands that potential. "If you set it up from the get-go to design it that way, I think that's a really rich and interesting place for the business to go."
