Project Natal will save the Japanese market!
Posted on Tuesday, 19 January 2010 by Speed, source: Destructiod
That things aren't going so well with the Japanese gaming market is common knowledge. For years games have been on the uprising all over the world while Japan is losing its status of as home of gaming, which it once had. Still Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg believes there's no reason to panic. According to the man, Project Natal will bring it back to life.
"Japan is a very important market for the gaming industry and home to some of the video game industry's leading innovators. I have spent a lot of time in Japan in the ten years I have been on the Xbox business and I love the country, the people and their ability to create new experiences that could only come from Japan.
"The reality of the Japanese gaming market is that it is not the size it once was and at the same time we have seen gaming become the largest form of entertainment around the world. However," he added, "I don't think this means that Japanese creators should be trying to come up with the next Halo or Call Of Duty. I think there are ways to leverage their creativity with new tools like Project Natal."
Although the Japanese market showed a decrease of 6.9% last year and Capcom's Keiji Inafune stated at the Tokyo Game Show that things are almost as good as over for Japan, Greenberg remains optimistic:"The reality of the Japanese gaming market is that it is not the size it once was and at the same time we have seen gaming become the largest form of entertainment around the world. However," he added, "I don't think this means that Japanese creators should be trying to come up with the next Halo or Call Of Duty. I think there are ways to leverage their creativity with new tools like Project Natal."
"... All of the leading Japanese publishers have announced that they are actively working on games for Project Natal and I can't wait to see these come to life. I truly believe the future is bright for Japanese creators and publishers."
Of course we won't benefit from a new Halo of Call of Duty, but an innovative game with Natal is something we wouldn't mind. But is the rest of the mainstream market ready for some crazy Japanese game?In other news:
