Project Origin officially transforms into F.E.A.R. 2

Posted on Monday, 8 September 2008 by Ryuken, source: IGN
Warner Brothers and Monolith have acquired the rights to the FEAR franchise and have thus renamed their unofficial sequel as FEAR 2. They likely didn't have much problems due to Activision Blizzard dumping most Vivendi franchises after the infamous merger as FEAR was one of those franchises.

This IGN report has all the details as well as a video monologue by WB's Peter Wyse who explains that WB and Monolith are "thrilled" to have the official name back.

Project Origin, the name for the unofficial sequel, isn't being left behind in the title though as it now becomes F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. Original!

Vivendi, who owned the rights previously, were supposedly working on a FEAR project as well but it seems that isn't gonna come out anymore now. Warner Brothers is determined to give fans all they want, read: there are enough sequels/addons left to come probably.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is scheduled for a release on PC, PS3 and Xbox360 in the first quarter of 2009.

The original Fear was a great game, I really enjoyed the multiplayer, and the fact that they released Fear: Combat (the multiplayer part of the game) for FREE was a nice surprise. I'll definitely follow the details of this game. Hopefully they can keep the feel of the game the same, if its one thing I hate most about FPS sequels, its when the feel of the game is completely different from the original (IE UT3).

true, allthough individually great games, the difference in physics & 'feel' between quake, quake 2, quake 3 and quake 4 was a shock and took alot of getting used to. especially quake 3 -> quake 3.
If you have a success, don't change it too much

Looking forward to this one but fear (pun not intended...) that the feel of the first one will be lost...but the first one was so great that this new one will still be good enough even if it's just slightly worse!
