Recession hits Wii

In the last two months, the Nintendo Wii saw dramatic sale drops in Japan, even in such a degree that publishers are looking closely at the situation in order to realign their strategy.
There is a genuine fear that this recession is the precursor to the global downturn in sales of the Wii long predicted and that a lot of publishers could be caught with their pants down with widespread investments into Wii software (a topic we discussed in detail with The Wii 2 to Cause Games Industry Crash).
Make no mistake, the industry is worried about the long-term viability of the Wii.
Currently the Wii is being outsold by the much more expensive Playstation3 so if this trend continous a lot of game publishers may see their investments in Wii games go down the drain. Something that would definitely drag the entire gaming industry further down into the economic crisis.Make no mistake, the industry is worried about the long-term viability of the Wii.
Luckily, E3 is coming up and nobody would be surprised to see Nintendo make some huge announcement(s) there including possibly Nintendogs for Wii and/or a massive price cut. Let's see what comes...
