Red Dead Redemption in trouble
Yesterday we reported that Rockstar San Diego wouldn't be making any more Midnight Club games, but it seems that's the least of their problems.
Upcoming Western shooter Red Dead Redemption has been in production for over six years by now and it seems that the team that needs to be finishing it is completely demotivated:
Meanwhile, MTV has received word from a former Rockstar New York employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, that the accusations about the bad working conditions in San Diego are true and he goes even so far to compare Rockstar New York with the Eye of Sauron:
Upcoming Western shooter Red Dead Redemption has been in production for over six years by now and it seems that the team that needs to be finishing it is completely demotivated:
One source said that the game "was a complete disaster for most of 2009 and previous ... it has since turned around a little bit, but there are huge problems with it still."
...
"The functional team that was Midnight Club was shattered. All the people who didn't quit or get fired were thrown onto Red Dead Redemption, many of them being demoted. The completely disfunctional team that is RDR was put to top priority. The people who had floundered on that project or outright screwed it up were promoted and are now in complete control of the studio, and they're running it into the ground."
The game is supposed to be released in April but if you read these comments nobody will be surprised if it gets postponed and if it does get onto store shelves, we may find it's not quite the quality one would expect from a Rockstar Game. And if that's the case, you can expect to see "management" passing the blame from the looks of it....

The source went on to compare Rockstar NYC to the Eye of Sauron when dealing with their studios. Teams would apparently work on a title for close to two years, but because of other priorities, like a major "GTA" release, for example, upper management wouldn't focus on other titles until the major project was done.
Basically you'd have a studio working without guidance or milestones for nearly two years and then Rockstar NYC would suddenly pay attention to the project, making major changes as if out of the blue. Said the source, "That's opposed to any other studio where there are regular meetings and milestones and stuff so you don't get too far down a path before people come in to make sweeping changes."
Sounds like a great company to work for :)Basically you'd have a studio working without guidance or milestones for nearly two years and then Rockstar NYC would suddenly pay attention to the project, making major changes as if out of the blue.
