Red Dead Redemption is a hit, you're still getting the boot though

Kotaku is reporting on rumors that Rockstar Games is axing about 40 members of the team that just delivered the awesome hit game Red Dead Redemption. The studio, better known as Rockstar San Diego, was previously responsible for the Midnight series and Rockstar Presents: Table Tennis.

However, Rockstar Games responded with the usual PR statement stating a natural flow of projects and such:
"As is typical with game development, our team sizes have always fluctuated over the course of the development cycle. As Rockstar San Diego transitions from the launch of Red Dead Redemption onto future projects, we are realigning our resources in order to continue to develop games as effectively as possible. We are ensuring that all employees who are affected by these changes are being treated with care. While we have no announcements to make regarding a sequel to Red Dead Redemption, the team here are hard at work on the development of downloadable content for the game."
Some insiders say that the downsizing of the studio might be because of the troubled development cycle Red Dead Redemption has known. The game suffered delays and rebelling employees who complained about their working conditions whilst comparing the headquarters to the "Eye of Sauron".

If cutting 40 jobs is a team fluctuation, then I wouldn't want to be around if they ever hit financial woes.
