Ricitiello's job on the line?
Electronic Arts has been having a tough time lately with new IP like Mirror's Edge underperforming and in fact their entire end of the year lineup from 2009 being swept away by the success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
As a result, EA's CEO, John Ricitiello decided to lower expectations for their fiscal year again and it seems shareholders aren't happy with that. In fact, if the current trend continues he might see himself being out of a job soon:
As a result, EA's CEO, John Ricitiello decided to lower expectations for their fiscal year again and it seems shareholders aren't happy with that. In fact, if the current trend continues he might see himself being out of a job soon:
"Anytime you underperform, you should be worried about your job," said Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey. "An inability to execute on his performance objectives this year could put him at risk."
Since Ricitiello started heading the company, shares have dropped a whopping 70% and shareholders are having little faith in EA's management:Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said the EA management team has "zero credibility" with investors, who he said have felt disregarded as EA has continued to miss its sales and earnings targets.
"Investors feel betrayed, and the comment I got most from investors today is 'They don't seem to care about investors.' This management team is running out of room to underperform. I think investor tolerance is gone ... they don't get another year to turn around," Pachter said.
Pachter also had some nice words for EA though. He believes the current lineup of games may very well be the savior of EA's top management:"Investors feel betrayed, and the comment I got most from investors today is 'They don't seem to care about investors.' This management team is running out of room to underperform. I think investor tolerance is gone ... they don't get another year to turn around," Pachter said.
"I think their lineup is going to save them," he said.
