Rumble costs Sony $150.3 Million

Posted on Sunday, 4 March 2007 by Speed, source: InformationWeek
On Friday we reported that Sony and Immersion had settled their lawsuit and closed a new deal that allowed Sony to use Immersion's rumble technology again in their controllers.

What wasn't noted in the original press release, though, was that Sony payed no less than $150.3 million for the settlement:

The agreement followed Sony's decision to withdraw its appeal of a federal court jury decision awarding Immersion $127.8 million, an Immersion spokeswoman said Friday. The Oakland, Calif., jury found Sony guilty of patent infringement in 2004.

In a separate, but related agreement, Sony has licensed Immersion technology for $22.5 million, the spokeswoman said.

Guess Sony will have to sell quite a lot of PS3's to make up for that loss...

They already have sold a lot that is what the court case was about. They sold something that wasn't theres to sell so they have already pocketed millions.
