I really don't get how this got past me these last few days but it seems SEGA is planning its comeback into the hardware world with a PMP handheld.
Named SEGA Vision, this new device is pointing its crosshair to nothing less than SONY's PlayStation Portable.
Although it can play games, it seems that this is not the main purpose of the device. It can also do film, capture images and video, record sound and it even has a built-in TV-tuner. If this isn't enough, the Vision invades two more territories of SONY's activities by being an e-book reader and a music player.
So they are attacking SONY on three fronts at the same time. All it lacks to start a real war is a competing HD media format.

No specs or feature details have been made available at this time. We also don't know the pricing yet. The only thing that is known is a suspected UK launch date of 'early 2009'.

It doesn't seem very probable to kill the PSP with all the momentum that console has at the moment but then again SEGA lost against the GameBoy whilst the GAME GEAR was a far better console so maybe this time around people will actually buy the best console, not the one with the most marketing.
Man, I really loved that thing. I still take it out sometimes and play Micro Machines or Shinobi or one of the other billion titles I made my mom buy me.
