Sins of a Solar Empire gets micro-expansions

Posted on Sunday, 31 August 2008 by Herrdidi, source: Fragland
Today Stardock announced their strategy game Sins of a Solar Empire will be getting multiple micro-expansions in the 12 months to come.

The first, Entrenchment, is being developed at this very moment and should see the light of day near the end of the year and should be available to you for a ten dollar fee. The expansions will be released through impulsedriven.com, the developers digital distribution platform.

Developed by Ironclad Games, Sins of a Solar Empire is a real-time strategy game that adds an extreme amount of depth normally only seen in turn-based releases. One of the highest ranking real-time strategy games of 2008, the title has sold over half a million copies and won several Editor's Choice awards.

In this first expansion you'll get a Starbase defense platform for each race, turret upgrades, minefields and a Subspace Inhibitor platform. Stardock CEO Brad Wardell explains:

"Sins of a Solar Empire, which was already an amazing game experience, is getting some outstanding ways to conquer others or defend your race. We're excited about being able to deliver expansion packs in a more modular way than traditionally. Now players can pick and choose what features they want rather than paying a higher price for a larger expansion pack which may have features they aren't interested in."

In other words: downloadable content... And it doesn't seem to be all that special to me, certainly not when you'll be able to buy a new game for the price of three to four of those micro-expansions.
