Six million WoW subscribers and counting
Posted on Wednesday, 1 March 2006 by Ryuken, source: Blizzard Entertainment
Blizzard Entertainment hasn't lost the 'Blizz' yet it seems. Now more than six million gamers are subscribing to their mmorpg World of WarCraft.
It might surprise you but that shouldn't be the end even. In this press release Blizzard announces a Spanish version of the game.
Quite a massive undertaking but quite a massive cash cow also. Let's hope they treat their customers with some more extra goodies before the first expansion (Burning Crusade) arrives.
It might surprise you but that shouldn't be the end even. In this press release Blizzard announces a Spanish version of the game.
The Spanish version will represent the fourth language available to players in Europe, making the game accessible to an even wider audience here. World of Warcraft's European customer base is currently at more than 1 million players, with the worldwide total now at more than 6 million players.
The Spanish version of the game will be released and hosted in Europe and supported by a dedicated Spanish-speaking team based at the Blizzard Europe offices. This will include 24/7 in-game support, offline customer support, a dedicated community team and an official World of Warcraft website in Spanish. As with the existing German and French versions, the game will be localised by the Blizzard in-house localisation team.
In Europe, World of Warcraft is operated by a dedicated local team of more than 450 Blizzard employees representing 22 different nationalities.

I'm no fan of Blizz, but they're are doing great things for the MMO industry. Too bad they're getting all the credit though - in my opinion WoW is one of the least innovative MMOs. Its just a mix of ideas created by other MMO-developers and then streamlined. Its well put together though.

Personally I don't like WoW. Then again, I was never really much of a warcraft fan :)

I know that, but paying for expansions is the norm for most, depending on the amount of content and extras I suppose, just hope the devs are in a giving mood. :D
