Slant Six lays off several, Battlefront Online on ice
Gamespot has received confirmation from Slant Six managing director Brian Thalken that the studio had to lay off several people due to not having enough work.
LucasArts wanted Battlefront Online to be released still this year due to a "stacked" 2011 but according to sources, the devs wouldn't be able to make that deadline and as such the publisher has decided to can the game until further notice:
"Our current project needs do not align with our current staffing levels." Apparently reluctant to leave a man (or woman) behind, he added the studio will bring back "as many of these staff members as possible" once the workflow accelerates on its next projects.
Slant Six previously made three SOCOM games including SOCOM Confrontation and was currently working on unannounced project which according to Kotaku included Star Wars: Battlefront Online.LucasArts wanted Battlefront Online to be released still this year due to a "stacked" 2011 but according to sources, the devs wouldn't be able to make that deadline and as such the publisher has decided to can the game until further notice:
Apparently Lucasarts has a "stacked 2011 schedule" when it comes to Star Wars games, and wanted Battlefront Online out in 2010 to avoid this crunch. When it became clear last month that the game wasn't going to make a 2010 release, Lucasarts put the project "on ice".
