Sony: LBP isn't doing poorly, it's just warming up
Eurogamer launched an inquiry at Sony Entertainment UK about the sales plummet of their newest hope for console domination: LittleBigPlanet. While the game debuted at a comforting fourth place in the UK charts, it tumbled down to 19 this week.
Sony UK, however, does not want to hear of defeat and they state that they are more pleased with the end-user reception which will ultimately sell more games trough mouth-to-ear publicity.
I hope for Sony's sake that they stop the silly censorship by deleting every single map that resembles a trademark without warming or reason given. That is the mouth-to-ear word that I've been hearing lately. Yes, I do realise that LBP is the kind of game that has to grow over a longer timespan but still, plummeting sales and community commotion are usually not a sing of good things to come.

"We're really pleased with the initial reaction to LittleBigPlanet, which has been our highest scoring game ever, I believe, with a Metacritic score of 95 per cent and a huge list of 10/10s or 100 per cent scores. We are also pleased with its commercial performance,"
I can understand that one might value creative success over commercial success. We must even applaud such perceptions of success in these days of blatant commercialism. But then the spokesman had to ruin the interview by just plain ignoring the sales numbers and making a questionable remark. "In other times of the year [LBP] would be a clear number one, so you have to put the chart in context. This is an incredibly volatile time of year and the chart reflects that."
So basically they are ignoring all other titles that are also victims of this 'volatile' time but yet manage to remain at the top of the pack rather than somewhere in the belly. What he is saying is that LittleBigPlanet is number one, we just don't realise it yet. It's not that it is getting beaten by all shiny new titles (which LBP is itself), heck, even Mario Kart is still ahead.I hope for Sony's sake that they stop the silly censorship by deleting every single map that resembles a trademark without warming or reason given. Aside from the on-line play (which does need improvement) the game is brilliantly fun.
