Sony blames Anonymous for PSN-hack

Posted on Wednesday, 4 May 2011 by Speed, source: EG
It's been two weeks since the PlayStation Network has gone offline and Sony today has officially blamed the hacking collective Anonymous for that.

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai did this in an open letter to a committee from the House of Representatives in the US. Apparently a file called 'Anonymous' was found on one of the SOE servers with the message "We Are Legion".
We discovered that the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named 'Anonymous' with the words 'We are Legion'.
Anonymous themselves only last month denied any involvement with the attack:
Anonymous is not attacking the PSN at this time.

We realise that targeting the PSN is not a good idea. We have therefore temporarily suspended our action, until a method is found that will not severely impact Sony customers.
Sony still hasn't given a date when PSN (or the SOE MMO servers) will be back online, but they're working hard to get everything up and running again as soon as possible. Sony earlier stated they expect to restore certain services this week.
