Sony doesn't buy exclusivity
In a few days it's E3 and like every year it's time to get dirty! Now we have Jack Tretton, President of SCE in America. In an exclusive interview for PSM(not really reliable isn't it?) he tells us that Sony doesn't need to buy exclusivity, unlike the 2 major competitors Microsoft and Nintendo.
This is sort of hard to believe, a company is not going to develop a game just for fun on a console with the highest development costs and the smallest userbase. A developer or publisher is not a charity institution and will always want to see some financial reason to make an exclusive contract.
They can say what they want about not needing exclusivity, but with lost exclusives like Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto 4, Devil May Cry 4, Virtua Fighter 5, Beautiful Katamari and Fatal Inertia their console is a lot less wanted by casual gamers who can get all these games on a console that is 200 dollar/euro cheaper.
Speaking to Future owned magazine PSM, Tretton stated that Sony don’t “bribe” developers to make exclusive titles for PS3, and that compared to other platform holders Sony has a healthy mix of first and third party games.
"We don't buy exclusivity. We don't fund development. We don't, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform.

"We earn it by saying you can build a better game on our platform. If you focus your development on our platform, you will ultimately be more successful.
“We can try to partner up with you from a technology standpoint. We can try to partner up with you from a marketing standpoint. But just economically and technologically, this is the system that makes the most sense for you."
