Sony miscommunicates Emmy award

Posted on Thursday, 11 January 2007 by Devilke, source: Gamesindustry
A few days ago, Sony announced to the world it had won a Technology and Engineering Emmy for the new SIXAXIS controller.

Despite the fact whether or not they copied Nintendo (let's not start a fight here), we found it pretty weird. As it happens, the controller is not that special compared to his predecessor.

Moreover, Sony seemed not the only one to receive the award. On the official website, Nintendo was named in the same category.

Séamus at Hydrapinion did some legwork and discovered that, while Sony had won an Emmy for Technology and Engineering, it wasn't for the SIXAXIS. Instead, Christine Chin from NATAS confirmed that Sony's Dual Shock as well as Nintendo's D-Pad (NES pad?) won "for the development of the generation of controllers that followed the classic joysticks."

Today, Sony corrected their mistake:

In a press release dated January 8, 2007, SCEA announced we had been recognized by NATAS with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the Sixaxis wireless controller.

Due to miscommunication between the two organisations, this information was incorrectly reported.
