Sony: no achievements in games
Wired's Chris Kohler has had a chat with SCEA's executive VP Jack Tretton who stated that PS3 games won't have achievements like they can be found in Xbox360 games
In short: forget about a 360-like achievements system unless publishers would include it themselves and none of the launch games have it
Wired News: Will there be an "Achievements" or "gamerscore" style feature in place?
Jack Tretton: We didn't mention that, but it is our intention that we would have it -- although I think it would be game-centric. It's very difficult to draw analogies [between] your success on SOCOM and your success on Madden. Madden players care about peoples' success on Madden.
So the publisher will have the flexibility to have a robust ranking system, on a game-by-game basis. The intention right now is not to have something that is pan-platform. We do intend to do that with our [first-party] stuff.

By you not knowing enough about them i mean if you dont own the machine then you cant know anything about them other than what you have read,so your hardly in a position to comment.
Anyway,the achievements are a good thing because it means people cant lie about specific hurdles in a game,if you have a high score or have finished a game on the hardest setting you can prove it,the gamer points/score that comes with the achievements is stupid but the achievements themselves are good.
