Pressure to cut the price of the PS3 is rising on Sony but the company isn't budging yet.

Analysts have been predicting a price drop for some time now and Mike Hickey from Janco Partners has stated he believes one is imminent. According to him, Sony may very well cut the price of their console with $50 to $100 by the end of this month:

“If they can’t meaningfully increase their install base, then you will likely see a capital reallocation,” Hickey said
Sony, however, is still claiming they're not interested in dropping the price. From Sony's senior vice president of marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America, Peter Dille, comes the following quote:

“Everybody in the development community would love for the PS3 to be free, so they could just sell razor blades,” Dille said in an interview. Sony is concerned with profitability, as well as the installed base, he said.
I think that in the current economic climate cash is king and I personally doubt Sony is willing to lose money on the PS3 in the hopes to earn it back with higher software sales.

Price cut imminent? I doubt it.
