Sony sued again over Blu-ray patent infringement
Posted on Saturday, 30 August 2008 by Speed, source: Edge-Online
Orinda Intellectual Properties USA has filed suit against Sony for apparent patent infringement with their PS3.
What about a patent that describes "machines with wheels that can be used to transport people and things". Guess I could use that to sue just about the entire auto industry, no?
Orinda has demanded a jury trial, and is seeking an injunction on manufacturing, sales and distribution of Blu-ray devices such as the PS3, computer peripheral products and dedicated Blu-ray players.
The plaintiff is also asking for "a reasonable royalty."
It seems the patent in question describes methods for recording and reproducing information via optical disc. To be honest that's so broad that it can be interpreted as just anything. Guess I'll have to set up a couple of patents of myself and start lawsuits against companies to make some money. The plaintiff is also asking for "a reasonable royalty."
