Sony to screw third party publishers?

Posted on Thursday, 23 November 2006 by Speed, source: Kotaku
Over at Kotaku is a new rumour that suggests Sony is looking for ways to get their "free" online service paid.

Although it's not confirmed, several industry insiders are reporting that Sony is looking for ways to charge someone (you, me, third party publishers) for cost of demo downloads

Several industry insiders report that to cover demo download costs, Sony is currently considering charging third party developers. Here's what Sony is apparently thinking: Every time an individual downloads a demo, a service charge will be passed onto the third party developer. So they will pay for you to try out their games, instead of vice-versa. Unconfirmed, but it seems that this way the PS3's online service stays "free," Sony cuts its loses and third party developers get reamed.

You can be sure that if Sony were to charge third party publishers for demo downloads, there will be hardly any becoming available for PS3. And if they decide to charge the consumer... what's left for "free"?

What a surprise, like anything free in this world is any good.
