Sony working on PS4 already?
What happened with "PS3 will go along for 10 years"?
Gamefront found a job ad from Sony in which the company states they're looking for a software engineer who would have to be dealing with backward compatability for both the PS3 and an "unspecified next-gen console".
The guy will be required to implement and optimise emulation software for PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 games on both formats.
This may suggest two things:
- Sony is working on bringing back backwards compatibility on the PS3
- Sony is already hard at work on the Playstation4 and wants that console to be backwards compatible with all previous versions.
If number two is correct, Sony must already be far in development of their next system and that would mean that, not surprisingly, they're dropping their strategy of staying with the PS3 for 10 years (as a top platform that is, we all know Sony tends to keep older platforms alive for budget stuff which we see happening with the PS2 at the moment)

Detecting a pattern here?
After 5 or 6 years (a console generation), a new console is released, while the support remains for a couple of more years. Business as usual.
