Are games available on Steam any less expensive than going ot the store to purchase them? I believe when HL2 and Counterstrike Source came out that this was definitely not the case. If it isn't, where is that additional money absorbed by Valve going to? If we can still purchase games at same value at retail, why not go there to pick them up. This way you avoid the long downloads and have the extra copy you can backup just for your self.

I think it's, you have to run the servers for Steam which costs money. And the extra money gained from using something like Steam could be used to make bigger and better games. I do like having something solid for my money though, and the prices for the HL2 episodes bother me. They're coming out with about 30% of a full game's content, but at 40% a full game price.

I don't think I'll start downloading my games any time soon, I want to have more than just a Key written down somewhere to show for my money. Expansions ok I'll download those, I bought HL2 Ep1 and plan to get the others, but not full games.
