Spore players express DRM anger through Amazon
Over at online shopping site Amazon, users have begun posting negative reviews for Maxis' game Spore. Most of them are doing this because they are upset about the DRM that comes with the game.
The system that Electronic Arts is using is a combination of the well known Securom copy protection and a nifty periodical activation that basiacally makes you reauthorize with EA every so much time. A quote from the review by user 'Erich Maria' sums it up perfectly:

This basically means that you are actually RENTING the game, instead of owning it. The game WILL stop to function in the future. That's inevitable, because even if EA keeps the activation servers going, there IS going to be a time when EA will simply cease to exist because of financial issues or federal laws (like most business eventually do)
Furthermore, all the known Securom issues like performance drops and DVD burning software that stops working still persist with this version of the software.Personally, I hate all this DRM crap they keep jamming down our throats even though it gets less and less noticable (remeber that TOCA release that fried DVD drives?) for end users.
