Square-Enix: 360 and PS3 are over-engineered

Posted on Tuesday, 12 June 2007 by Speed, source: Gamespot
In an interview, Square-Enix CEO Yoichi Wada explained that the reasons for releasing Dragon Quest IX: Guard of the Starry Night (working title) on DS and not on X360 or PS3, are pretty clear: both consoles are over-engineered and not what gamers want.

"There are too many specs--and you also need a high-definition TV, a broadband connection, and a deep knowledge of gaming--these consoles are mismatched to today's environment. In a year or two years, they will fare better."

"[Whereas] in the old days,we could just focus on the PlayStation or the Game Boy," he said, "the environment has changed completely." A new breed of gamer has also emerged on the back of the release of Nintendo's marketing push to embrace nontraditional gamers--including women and older people--and this means, Wada says, "we have to make games for all kinds of people."

in other words, it cost less to develope for the DS then the PS3 or xbox 360... boy, this money making game generation is going to the pits... either people stick to one genre or part 2 and 3, 4, 5 even of a game... or just make it for a handheld... no creativity what so ever..

Gaming needs developers with balls!

leave the games as games. we want to play games which are fun, challenging easy to understand. we dont want to get a broadband connection (we dont even have dialup modem connections yet), 50 inch hdtv, prologic speakers, wireless controllers just to play games. just keep it simple stupid! no wonder nintendo wii and ds is kicking the arses of microsofties and sony.

I wouldn't mind as long as the games weren't so fucking easy.

At least give them some difficulty scaling, i can't bare to play some games even thought they could be so fun. They just become boring due to lack of challenge..
