Square Enix puts Eidos publishing to sleep

Posted on Tuesday, 7 July 2009 by Speed, source: Gamesindustry.biz
Square Enix has decided to get rid of the Eidos label for publishing and instead put everything up under the new label called Square Enix Europe.

Don't despair though, the Eidos brand will continue to live as the different development studios around the world that will report to Square Enix Europe will continue holding the Eidos name.

Square Enix Europe, which is a working name until further notice, will be headed up by current Eidos CEO Phil Rogers.

The move to consolidate everything under one publishing brand is expected to go along with some redundancies, but nothing more is know at this time:
"Unfortunately we are expecting some jobs to be impacted directly by this in both Europe and North America," read a statement from the company. "We are hoping to minimise this wherever possible and offer support and advice to any employees directly affected."

Just to reiterate, Tomb Raider, Hitman, Deus Ex 3, etc will all continue to be Eidos games, but published by Square Enix Europe (name tbc)
