Stardock: Games for Windows LIVE sucks
Posted on Wednesday, 24 March 2010 by Speed, source: Edge-Online
Speaking with Edge, Stardock founder Brad Wardell stated that the whole Games for Windows LIVE (the supposed PC equivalent of Xbox LIVE) sucks.
Well, he didn't say it with those words, but he was being diplomatic:
Well, he didn't say it with those words, but he was being diplomatic:
Patch downloads frequently freeze or time out without telling the user, leaving them staring at an unmoving progress bar. Wardell cites “a lack of commitment to quality” as one of the problems with the service, and it’s easy to see why. While we’re talking, he sends us a screenshot of what Live is displaying as he’s logging in: a ‘Server Too Busy’ error message on the homepage. This is, let us remember, a service that is supposed to cover the vast PC gaming landscape, backed by the resources of the world’s biggest software company
Edge also went digging further into why Games for Windows LIVE isn't working out too great and found one of the reasons to be the following:Online profiles work in much the same way as Xbox Live: you sign up, create a Gamertag and, by being signed in, collect Achievements as you play games. The issue is that, if you start a game while logged in to your account, your saved games are then irrevocably tied to that online profile. If your internet connection is ever unavailable, or if the Games for Windows Live servers aren’t working, then those saves are inaccessible. You cannot play your singleplayer game.
Hmmm, sounds a lot like that new DRM solution both Ubisoft and EA are using, doesn't it? And just like Games for Windows LIVE, we all know how that turned out.In other news:

Hate it, won't buy any game if it's got it.

I mean if you can download pirated games with almost no hassle then why is it that legal sites to purchase games fail and is so so hard to use and comply with DRM. And not that i'm saying that I download games illegally.
