Switzerland to ban violent games?

The Swiss don't like first person shooters
I guess they're ditching their neutrality!

Gamesindustry.biz is reporting that the Swiss parliament has passed a new law that may lead to the complete ban of violent videogames in the country.
An initial proposal was put forward last month, calling for the banning of any game that "requires cruel acts of violence against humans and human-like creatures for in-game success", and that motion has now been passed by the Swiss National Council.

Now that parliament has voted in favour of the move, it is free to decide on the specific legal text - although citizens are able to challenge any new law passed by parliament if they can show sufficient opposition to it.
One of the motions put forward is a total ban of all first person shooters rated +16 or +18 by PEGI (European rating system).

This comes in little after Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson has decided to step down from his post, making the possibility of the country stepping away from banning all mature videogames one step closer.

I have one word for the Swiss: losers!

Peolpe will get their hands on the games anyway, they shouldn't ban them. If they want more control increase the age limits and fine someone to death if they sell to underage people.

Where will this end, in Eve you are just shooting another spaceship but it holds an human avatar, is that against the rules? So any PvP game will be banned, there are very few games that dont include a humanoid in there somewhere.

Looking across my shelves I cant see many games that dont have killing humanoids, Civilisation could be one (lucky speed) and maybe diablo but not sure if some of the demons could be argued as human-like creatures?

You're forgetting the battle in Civilization. Ok, the characters don't really LOOK human, but you can't say they aren't. (unless you consider roman archers for instance as being non-human ;p)
