TA-creator revealing Supreme Commander
Some time ago a rumour circulated the net that Electronic Arts signed a new rts project from Gas Powered Games (developers of the Dungeon Siege series). Now it seems that only the publisher was wrong (it's THQ). The main man of Gas Powered Games is Chris Taylor, the genius behind the brilliant (if not the most brilliant) and first 3D real-time strategy game Total Annihilation.
He and his team are creating Supreme Commander, which should be the spiritual successor to TA (Atari is holding the rights but isn't apparently doing anything with it after a canned TA2 project with Korean developer Phantagram).
Now PC Gamer has a preview on the game with the first real info in their newest issue.
Supreme Commander is set to release in 2006. Hopefully it'll take the crown of best 3D rts which is (in my honest opinion) still in the hands of the original TA.

The big deal with SC is that there is a galactic war going on in real-time and as the Supreme Commander, you can seamlessly zoom in and out of different battles, shifting from a satellite to ground-level view. The action takes place on land, air, and sea with a large variety of units, including "major units" that are huge, hulking pieces of steel many times larger than the standard unit. Think a Godzilla-sized unit marching along with your tanks.
Realistic sizes are key, according to Chris Taylor, battleships in the game are gonna be so huge that you'll need a dual screen setup to see the whole thing at a ground level view.
