Speaking to investors during the latest earnings conference call, THQ's CEO Brian Farrell stated that the company will be working on fewer but bigger core gamer titles and increasing the popularity of its UFC brand (WWE games). Also more focus will go towards massive multiplayer online games:
"More gamers are buying and playing games online, our strategy is to make targeting investments in extending key brands including company of heroes online , WWE online, and our Warhammer 40,000 MMO,"
Following the announcement of THQ's latest financials, several analysts have lowered their ratings on the company, as Gamasutra reports:Janco Partners' Mike Hickey suggests investors should tap out, lowering his rating on THQ to Market Perform and calling the company's future earnings potential "unpromising." Hickey also believes THQ's management "continues to be in a state of flux and lacks considerable credibility, in our view."
THQ's shares took another dive, going down 27% at $4.80 per share. Early this year, you would pay around $28 for a share of THQ.The drop of share price isn't that unsurprising when you note that THQ's losses have again increased (and they were HUUUUUGE):
In its latest quarter, THQ revealed its losses widened to $115.3 million on $164.8 million in revenues. In the same quarter last year, the company had $7 million in losses against $229 million in revenue
