Members of the community site Relic News have stumbled on trademark documents which seem to prove that Relic owner THQ has acquired the rights to the Homeworld name.

The previous owner, Vivendi Universal (more specifically the Sierra publishing label), has allegedly also transferred the actual license to THQ so they can use the intellectual property. Not only Homeworld but also the Homeworld: Cataclysm expansion trademark has been signed in August this year.

For those of you wondering what Homeworld is: it's a real-time strategy game set in space, meaning you have an actual 3D environment to play in and not just a 2D plane like in most other RTS's. Relic made Homeworld 1 and Homeworld 2, Barking Dog did the Homeworld: Cataclysm addon. All Homeworld-games were published by Sierra and when THQ bought Relic the series seemed to have come to an end, also because Homeworld 2 wasn't a sequel that lived up to all expectations.
