Take Two under attack by the 'serious' press

Posted on Tuesday, 30 December 2003 by DoubleD, source: Fragland
Publisher Take Two has had quite an action-filled year and won't easily forget 2003. They've succeeded in succesfully marketing the Grand Theft Auto series, developed by Rockstar Games and reached the mainstream press on several occassions... be as it may in a negative way.
[imglnk]15191[/imglnk] [imglnk]1545[/imglnk]
And we can add another mainstream article to the list. The US daily The New York Post has published an article by C.Byron (what's in a name?) urging investors to sell their Take Two stock and not buy any in the future.
[imglnk]15188[/imglnk] [imglnk]15190[/imglnk]
But his reasoning is competely ... well... I cannot use other words than 'fucked up' - if you pardon my french. His arguments for not buying or holding on to Take Two stock are far-fetched, fictional, tendentious, prejudiced ... and everything you'd not expect from a self-respecting journalist.
People, this is insane. This is 10,000 times worse than the worst thing anybody thinks Michael Jackson ever did to a little boy...
Is he really stating here that some harmless over-the-top virtual violence is worse than peadophelia ? To be honest, I hope some peadophelia-victim slaps this guy in the face in public !
Thanks to its artful and complex programming and its incredibly realistic graphics, the game creates the impression of being inside a totally unscripted, live-action drama in which you can manufacture your mayhem as you go along.
Now this is a compliment, but he says that GTA:Vice City has 'incredibly realistic graphics' ... what ? ... I mean... it's a cartoon for crying out loud ! It's pen, (virtual) paper and ink !

And he rants on and on about the contents of Take Two's games, expressing his personal anger and disgust on ... a game ! Am I the only one that finds this pathetic ?

I could go on and on here, discussing this authors lamentable attempt at a serious 'stock-exchange business article', but ... oh well... what's the use? The sad thing is that some editor-in-chief ran this story and probably payed the author.

READ THE (rediculous) ARTICLE

***UPDATE***
I have just read up on the New York Post - ok, now I understand. I was under the assumption that it was a decent newspaper - having business pages and all. Sorry, my mistake :)

Most negative publicity comes from a couple of kids who either have no sense of what's real and what's a game whatsoever, or who like to blame a game so they can cut off some time in jail if they're sentenced for manslaughter. (You know, the highway shooters)

btw, DoubleD, are you going to say "(what's in a name?)" about every name you see? ;)
