Posted on Tuesday, 18 April 2006 by Speed, source: Fragland.net
Some weeks ago, we posted our review of the Creative Fatal1ty 1010 mouse which had some nice features but couldn't really convince us.

Today, we bring you yet another mouse review, this time taking a look at the Logitech G5.

If you want to know whether this offering from Logitech is the ultimate gaming mouse, I suggest you click here

Personally, I do use the mousewheel button on my good old MX500 (on which the G5 is still based).

I think it's a bid sad they skipped the second side button (an MX500 has two), since it's very convenient in shooters that require a lot of keys.

Nevertheless, I've used a friend's G5 several times and I must say the customizable weights are a very neat touch. And then you have the added benefit of adjustable accuracies, though the highest ones are nearly unplayable. I prefer the medium presets (which don't actually differ from my mouses standard res).

As long as my MX500 still works like a charm, I won't replace it, but when the time comes, I'll definitely consider the G5. Other people should do it too.

The scroll button is really a tough one with this model. It takes a while to learn how to click on it without accidentaly scrolling or tilting the wheel. It's like too hard to push.. strange :) Anyway, i'm used to middle-clicking while browsing, so i used the software to configure the left tilt-function so it would act like a scroll click.

And it's exactly at that point that this comes in:
The first days I was using the G5, I did spot some strange behaviour. In-game the mouse would suddenly stop reacting to my input. Up to now I still haven't figured out what was causing this problem and after 2 days of use, I never experienced the same issue again.

I had it over a dozen times (i'm using the G5 for 3 months now) that *not a single* program would respond to my mouse any longer, because i oddly clicked in firefox. Like a double scroll click + tilt. The only thing i could do to fix it, was ctrl-alt-del and shut down the driver program.

I never had 2 side buttons before, so i don't really care that there's only one on the G5. But i do like it that the software allows to make adjustments per executable. So for those who don't need the resolution buttons ingame, you can change them into something else. Can be helpfull for throwing grenades. Also, adding quick-knife to the right tilt is loads of fun ^^
