The Downfall of the Dreamcast
Posted on Tuesday, 26 April 2005 by Speed, source: Gimmecheats
Over at Gimmecheats is a nice article that describes how Sega's Dreamcast came to fall and lead Sega to step out of the console hardware business
From a gamer’s point of view, I think that Sega lacked an effective marketing plan for the Dreamcast. Its goal was to beat Sony and Nintendo by releasing a superior console with newer technology but did anyone really care? What people cared for was the PS2 because of the strong marketing campaign that Sony was pushing. Sega knew that its console was good but what mattered the most was what the gamers were thinking, and that was not Dreamcast. A wise move would have been to market the Dreamcast towards the PSOne crowd which would have convinced people to hop off the PS2 bandwagon.
