The Elder Scrolls V might be MMO

Posted on Wednesday, 21 February 2007 by Anneleen, source: 1up
Pete Hines of Bethesda Softworks has been speculating in an interview about the future of the compay and the sequel to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

"Well, I can tell you that since Oblivion has been such a smashing success that I'm sure we will do it [Elder Scrolls V], but there are no immediate plans right now," said Hines. As for what form Elder Scrolls V would take, that's still up in the air. An MMO seems like a natural evolutionary step for the series, and while Hines says that's already been bounced around, he doubts they would do it unless they had a "fresh idea" for the genre.

So TES5 as a massive multiplayer game belongs to the possibilities, but at this time there are no plans yet. The studio focusses on Fallout 3 now.

I'd die if TES 5 turns out to be an mmo, they should rather work on 2 seperate games, an mmo version of the TES universe with new storyline etc and keep TES 5 singleplayer. Call the mmo TES Online or something like that.

I don't have the ability or desire to play online, but I love this game! It would be a massive letdown for all fans who are not online to not be able to play a game we are so waiting for.

I definitley disagree with the idea aswell. There are already too many games turning into MMOs, and one of the reasons I play this game is beause it hasn't turned into an MMO. In my opinion the variety of non MMO RPG games is dwindling, which will lead to an increase in sales for Bethesda, because almost all players looking for a non MMORPG will likely turn to elder scrolls. Besides, if they turn it into MMO, they will lose a lot of their base fans, and it is hard to get people started on a new MMO, since there is already so many others out there. In my opinion, it would be better for bethesda, and the fans of the Elder Scrolls series, if it didn't become an MMORPG. Perhaps they could do as others have suggested, and be able to play with people online, but only a small number of people, such as 4 or so.

I wouldn't bother if it turned out to be an mmo...i dk what is the matter with all ppl wanting TES V being an mmo i mean like the game would lose its unique gameplay and from my favorite series would turn to be the worst because you'd never play in peace.There would always be a stupid man who will kill you just for fun.A seperate multiplayer version could be nice thought it would be great now to think about it like Diablo II in one server 8 gamers can participate and every player can make a server and play the story line keeping characteristics and stuff.Like this the game would not only not lose it's authenticity but also approach a larger part of players with next-gen graffics.Players could join and do the main quest etc.But the main idea in every Elder Scrolls and a true fan could realize this is that your player is marked.Unique touched by the gods to save the empire.In an MMO a million people in one single world would be touched.

I think the MMO would be a good idea I think it should be like you choose if you want to play online or story but in story you could invite your friends to do quests with you and make the game a little more fun seeing how you could either clear out a temple by yourself or clear out a temple with your friends like a group or guild and do things together and level up together it is always more fun playing with people than by yourself because one of the things I didn't like about oblivion is sometimes you got a little lonely because you did quests mostley by yourself I personally think it would be more fun to do it with my friends then by myself, the only thing I think would be bad about this is the it would probably lag sometimes but it would be a small price to pay for much more fun.

MMO = Bad Idea.
Co-Op Multiplayer = Makings of the best game ever

The playstyle of TES is such that making it an MMO would destroy it.

However, adding a multiplayer element, to where people could join in and quest with you, would be fantastic. Everyone likes tooling around with a buddy or two.

DUDE! It should be both... kinda like Two worlds... They have a set of online and offline char's for you to use and it's both a RPG style gameplay. Thats how it should be... and also 2 different games one with fullout online and fullout offline would be a great idea!

An MMO would be a complete let-down The Elder Scroll games ive learned are about being able to do things no other game can there has never been a game with this much freedom and mod-friendly gameplay the closest anyone ever got was two worlds which was extremely tedious but i do somewhat agree with the multiplayer having 2-8 people explore the world at a time thing that would be fun
