The Sims has sold 100 milion copies
EA just announced that The Sims has reached the peak of 100 milion sold copies. Because of this, Electronic Arts sees it as the best sold PC-franchise in history. This number will of course keep rising if you already now that there is a sequel in development and more expansions will be released in the near future.
And then to think that The Sims was almost cancelled :)
"At this milestone, we want to thank players of The Sims everywhere for making The Sims such a worldwide phenomenon," said Rod Humble, head of studio for The Sims Label.
"The Sims has been an interactive experience for people around the globe to explore their passion for creativity and we're thrilled to be a part of that.
"From building houses and relationships, from the first kiss to a toddler's first step, from kitchen fires - and even visits from ghosts, players have told more than 100 million unique and fun stories!"
The first The Sims was released in 2000 and has since been published in over 22 languages in 60 countries. The online community (of The Sims 2) is also impressive with 4,3 milion unique visitors a month.
