The rise & fall of Sega

Posted on Tuesday, 20 June 2006 by Speed, source: 2old2Play
Over at 2old2play is an interesting article that describes the rise and fall of Sega as a console giant.

Sega started as a small business from which spawned a gaming giant. As with all great Empires, they eventually rot, crumble, and fall from their own ever-grasping hand. After the Genesis they tried to go in too many directions at once and spread their resources too thin. They knew they would have major competition from other game developers, but I bet when they started, they never imagined they would be their own worst enemy.

A case of bad luck was apparent also in their downfall, the new kids hyped playstation and saturn/dreamcast did only fairly decent while sony got #1. anyways thats my theory :), they never should have stopped making consoles, like comon, 250(?) million players is to small a market for 4 different systems and can only sustain 3???.
