The toplist of Vaporware

Posted on Wednesday, 8 February 2006 by Devilke, source: Wired
There's one thing you can't blame Duke Nukem Forever for: that their marketing isn't incredibly brilliant. In the meanwhile, it's being developed for almost ten years and not a month goes by without joking, talking or speculating about it. Laudable!

This time, it is Wired that places the game in the picture. In their list of Vaporware, stuff that is being developed for so long people start wondering if it exists, the game takes first place.

"Announced in 1997 and promised every year since, this game takes vaporware to new heights. Think about it, in just 13 months this game will have been in one form of development or another for a decade. This project started with a game based on the Quake 2 engine, then in 1999 it moved to the Unreal engine and has been stalled ever since."

Also a few other games have conquered a place in the top ten:

10. High-def TiVo and TiVoToGo for Mac
9. AlphaGrip ergonomic keyboard/trackball
8. Blu-ray or HD-DVD discs
7. Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms
6. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
5. StarCraft Ghost
4. Microsoft's Vista and Internet Explorer 7
3. Google -- betas galore
2. Phantom Game Service
1. Duke Nukem Forever

The Phantom console will probably stay a ghost and TF2 seems to die too. A while ago, Team Fortress made us drewl with some very nice movies.

It's not just that a game like Duke Nukem Forever is so delayed, it's all the "smoke", the BS, you get to hear from those producing it, especially in the case of The Phantom console, thatmakes it "interesting"...man, the excuses sometimes
